Who are digital artists?
Digital artist is someone who uses digital technology as their artistic tool. This type of art can span around different fields of design like websites, advertisements, book covers, video games, & etc.
Digital artists can explore fields like graphic design, animation, or game design. These fields are always evolving and change is the only constant but the change is always for the better and gives creators a hand to explore their unlimited opportunities.
Earlier digital art was introduced in the form of typography, advertisement and graphics. This 21st-century career, that involves designing commercial artwork by using the computer and latest technology has emerged as a hot and happening option for artistically inclined professionals, with advertising agencies, design firms, publishing houses, television production companies, electronic media, website and internet businesses scrambling for their services.
The career not only has a wide spectrum but also has got companies hooked on to this platform for their needs like social media creatives, website layouts, magazine designs etc as its more precise, digitally appealing and more experiments and changes can be done in lesser time and lets not forget mass production of such art can be created easily depending on the demand.
Traditional artists are different from digital artists because they use raw materials such as pencils, brushes, mix media etc. Traditional artists may at times use some forms of software but it won’t be for all projects these artists do more commercial work that involves smaller projects that are unique or even require painting skills that can be used on specific platforms.
The reason digital artists are more in demand compared to traditional artists is because digital art is cost and time effective compared to traditional creations, digital art is being increasingly preferred for advertising purposes and by filmmakers to produce mind blowing visual effects. A digital artist and a traditional artist have one thing in common and that is the gift of visualization. An artist must work on strengthening their base which focuses on good drawing skills, ability to think out of the box and learning to think and visualize in a creative manner.
A digital artist must have the following skills:
- Sketching
- Typography
- Composition
- Color Usage
- Shading and Lighting
- Creating original ideas and usage
- Animation
- Character Drawing
You cannot produce traditional art in a single day. Making artwork involves a number of things. It involves waiting until the paint dries (before applying another layer) or until it is time to move on. Making one piece of art can take a long time (from days to weeks, and sometimes even months) And because digital art is faster in terms of creation and also being able to undo the mistakes and redo them without a sign of error is why digital artists have gained more attention and importance in the last few years in terms of work and technique of delivery.
The realm of digital art is vast, just as that of traditional art (and growing with the advancement of technology). With digital art, there are no boundaries to what you may create. Anything you can think of can be made. You can also produce extraordinary works of art!
Pay for a laptop or graphic tablet and a tonne of software to get started with digital art (even just one software can do the trick). Digital art storage won’t require much space in your home. It won’t even require any room! Your years’ worth of artwork can be kept on your computer’s hard drive or uploaded to the cloud and can easily be changed or edited and used again as and when needed.
